Week 7..... Almost there.

I am done with Week 7.  Only 2 days left before I finish my preceptorship at Mary Bridge.

This week I had a tons of new experience, finished my teaching project, got done with most my homework and now ready to finally grow up into a big person and become a big scary "RN". :)

I start my Kaplan course to prepare for the NCLEX on December 12th and hopefully will have the test done by the end of the year.  I was going to take the PALS Certification (Pediatric Advance Life Support) but have been talked out of it by the nursing staff and management because they said without more experience I would not understand half to stuff they talk about. I have been advised to take it once I get a job and most likely the hospital will send me to it.  I am glad I did not press that "pay" button on the screen when I started to register for it.  :)  Thank you Mary Bridge staff for steering me in the right directions to secure a job.

I am starting to get melancholy about leaving Mary Bridge after after my preceptorship is over..    I have grown close to everyone and have created a good repoire with them.    The nurse manager said they might have a pediatric nurse residency starting at the beginning of the year.  I will be applying if a residency opens up.   I would love to find a job in Mary Bridge as I am comfortable with how they do things, know EPIC (which is the charting system) and have really built some friendships there.

I  plan on monitoring for jobs at Seattle Children's, University of Washington medical, Providence (up in Everett), Northshore school district (and surround districts) and others to try to stay in the pediatric world.

We will see were I end up.  I pray I will go were I am suppose to be.  It's scary, not knowing were I will be, but look forward to the opportunities that will present to me when they do.

Enough of week 7.  Almost there, I am pretty much allowed to be a full fledged nurse at this point in the hospital.  I am charting regularly, giving meds (of course with my preceptor right behind me watching and verifying),  doing all that are within the scope of what a RN can do.  Talking to the doc's are not as scary as it use to be.  I feel more confident but still cautious (which I want to be especially with meds),  I KNOW pediatrics is the place for me, and I am willing to jump through hoops to stay a pediatric nurse.

IT SO VERY WORTH IT!!!  I am grateful for all the wonderful nurses at Mary Bridge that took this little chicklet under their wings to mold me, give me encouragement, correct me, and allow me to learn to fly.  I would not have done it without everyone! Thank you!
