Week 4....

My week 4 at Mary Bridge was just as busy as last week.  I am now 96 hours down out of 240 hours needed.  YAY!! I am almost there.  I am getting more and more comfortable in my nursing shoes.  I am glad for the experiences I am having.  Working with children has been such a blessing.  Seeing the sparkle in their eyes make my day.

Day 7 (tuesday)

My preceptor was not on the schedule and so I assumed that I would be working with someone else.  Found out later she was called in to be the Charge Nurse again but that they needed me bad on the floor and so they didn't want me to follow her around charging.   I was able to work with a nice nurse who let me take on 2 /4 of her patients fully.   I had a very complicated patient and another patient that I was able to discharge.  Check a discharge off my list!! :)

Day 8 (Wednesday)

Again I was a float RN with my preceptor for part of the morning.  The census was down and 7 people were called off from working.   I spend my morning running to every unit and up every stairway helping out other nurses needs,  reviewing crash carts, glucometers.  My preceptor and I got called to help with a procedure that was way  cool after which we got the word that kids were being admitted from the ER and were done being the float and took on the patients.  We ended up getting 3 admits all at the same time. YAY!! Another check on the admit part.  It was super crazy busy because of it.   BUT I am now almost 1/2 way there.  :)

1. Chart on the care plans.  I really want to be able to chart learning to use the care plans instead of the nursing notes. -Check!  I charted on all 3 care plans on wednesday
2.  Complete a discharge and admit on my own. -Check did 1 discharge and 3 admits
3.  Find more opportunities to give more meds (especially IV meds and I want to hang Solution bags (still have not done that yet this quarter) ).- gave a lot of meds this week and hung many bags of solution.
4.  Continue interacting with doctors and answer phones. -  Check!
5.  Take on 2 patients a day again. - Check!
6.  Find 5 new experiences - Check!! i also have some new experience I can't discuss because of HIPAA Laws.

Week 5 goals ( I work thurs, fri, sat)-

2.  Give report on all my patients
3.  Take on 3 patients
