With all the turmoil in the market today I often wonder what we do to fix it. The government keeps on talking about bailing out the companies that decide to spend unwisely and make stupid choices. I wonder myself if that is a mistake. Why give 700 billion dollars to bail out someone when we can easily give that back to the people encouraging people to pay off there debt so that they are not beholding to credit and a mortgage. Why not encourage people to be debt free like the Mormon church promotes. Think of how many crisis's this country would avoid if we where encourages to live by that principle alone. Instead this country (and world really) have decided that it is better to push debt, encourage high priced mortgage even though a family can't afford it, and live vicariously in the moment instead of thinking of the future. It would not matter as much when the big guns fail because our society would be living debt free. Having said that, my statement is just a dream. It would take a change in ideas, values and a hard look at self to make that kind of change. I wish we did not have to bail out a infrastructure building company (mind you we don't bail out little mom and pop stores when they fall victim) but when we as people (and the government) have allowed this to happens makes it almost impossible not to bail them out.
I am not one to really talk about being debt free, but I have close friends that have done just that. Instead of buying a expensive house they have made a chose to live within there means and now are reaping the benefits of it. This scenario goes to show that all the counsel the church has given us to stay out of debt and live within our means goes without saying the best advice anyone could have given. An inspired counsel.
