Over the years I have been given some really good advice, sound advice and some well not so good advice. I figured I might as well share the advice that has really stuck with me, down deep.
1. First off I want to give my favorite scripture because it says a lot about what has motivated me to be the person who I am. It is James 1:5
" If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him".
I have always been one to pray about most of my decisions. I need prayer, or I go sideways, backwards, or whichever way I go, but definitely I don't go the way I want to go or what my Heavenly Father has planned for me.
2. When I first moved to Maple Valley, the bishop of my church sat both James and I down to talk to us about what matters most. He knew we were a BIG Lacrosse family and would miss sometimes to go to tournaments. He said a prayer with us, then talk to us about making church a priority over sports including the Wednesday night activities. He told us that if we made church a priority our boys would stay active in the church and serve missions. He related to a statistic that has been happening in the church.. that if kids missed church/church activities for sports or other things there was a 90% chance they would be inactive by the age of 17. I have since heard this same statistic, even in this new ward we just moved into. Long story short, we made the decision to put church first. We talked to the coaches at the beginning of the season and James rearranged his team so that we did not have to practice on Wednesday. The boys missed a lot of Sunday tourney's and missed every Wednesday night practices. James team was very appreciative of them not having Wednesday practices because surprisingly he ended up having 3 other LDS kids on team ( just by chance) and many other kids that had Wednesday night youth night. It also did not affect their playing time, EJ was a starting attack and TJ a starting midfielder.
3. Duck Tape is good, it has many uses, you know like duck taping some mouths shut etc etc ;) Ok I am just kidding, but am I really? :)
4. Always listen to your heart and the still small voice. Stay spiritual. Right and wrong becomes evermore clear when you stay spiritual and listen to the spirit. The blur line gets more black and white. Since I have been a little girl, I have always craved spiritual things. As a young 10 year old, my journal writings consisted of spiritual matters of the heart. I have always felt things and prayer is not only a one way communication for me. Some people would call me a empath, but the reality is that I just listen better then others and do something about it.
5. Associations and desires dictate priorities, priorities shape our choices, and choices determine our actions. The desired we act on determine our changing, our achieving, and our becoming. What great sound advice. So are we taking to much time to work over family? Are we out doing sports more then spending time with the ones we love? This was great sound advice I have been trying to used (more recently then not) to prioritize my life.
6. Stay away from having sleepovers!! (I really like this one lol). Nothing happens good at sleepovers. To be honest I have always HATED allowing sleep overs at my house. Who really wants to watch more kids plus now that Rae is older and we have teenage boys, sleepover are out. I don't need that type of issues. Great Sound Advice!!!
7. I am a go getter. One reference a LDS person has for sound good advice is our patriarchal blessings. Part of the advice I've been give is that I needed to attend school and DO NOT WASTE TIME doing it. Yes it was in bold in my blessing. lol. It also said that I would be the best qualified person in my chosen profession and that my talents would be in demand. To me this is very interesting because most people don't get that specific advice in their blessing. My whole blessing is very specific... including the fact I am a good public speaker, which is absolutely true I will admit :) Other things are to personal to share but I do listen and take the advice to heart.
8. Exercise daily, and just do it!! This one is a hard one for me. I have tons of excuses why I shouldn't exercise. I mean come on who wants to get up at 5 am just to run. Not me! That is for sure. But I know I need to, hence why I started the weight loss challenge back last year. It has helped me get off my weight or maintain (as i seems to be doing this challenge). I also try to sign up for races as much as I can. My next race will be a 1/2 marathon in November. I am signed up to do the 190 mile ragnar relay race in September but just found out I will be starting school the same time as the race so I am going to have to pull out sadly. :( My training starts today for the 1/2 marathon. I did 3 miles today and it was NOT fun.
Anyways I have been given a lot of advice but these are the ones that stick out. You have advice for me. Please give :)
