Do we help or do we sit by and watch.....

idy by

I figure I might as well bring in some controversy into my blog. Hey why not. :)

In my microbiology class we have to do case studies and a powerpoint presentation on the case study with a group of people. Afterwards a discussion question is asked of every student to answer. The case study for this week was TB, what it is, how is spreads, etc. The discussion question that we needed to answer was if we think TB could become a Pandemic and if the United states should help impoverished nations control their TB outbreaks and if we are obligated to do so.

Of course being the person I am I said yes, that we have a moral and fundamental obligation to to help other who don't have the means to  help themselves medically because of their conditions.

Other people answered the same, but some oh my, said we should not help and to let them all die because they are going to die anyway's and that we need to just worry about our own country. I can't believe the selfishness I hear in most of the posters. It was quite sickening.

Yes I do understand we do have problems of our own in this blessed country, but come on, our suffering are pail in comparison to less fortunate countries. On top of it you don't think that with the day and age of travel, and being able to spread disease more then ever, that we don't have a medical and moral obligate to help other countries at least with education and medical supplies. TB right now is mostly curable, there are starting to be resistant strains out there and the bugger is mutating.

So basically half the students are saying is  it all about ME, MYSELF and I and screw everyone else. It kills me how liberal people have become.

The sad part is with that type of mentality in the end, I feel that what goes around comes around because eventually we as a nation are going to need outside help and I wouldn't doubt it if some people will say "they don't need our help, let's think of ourselves and not worry about them". So the comments hit a raw nerve with me, does it you?

On the same topic, have you seen the show what would you do is a show that films, with a hidden camera, what people would do in a certain situations. It is really surprising that people will actually sit by while things big happen around them and won't get involved. Women more likely then men will get involved but still most will not, even if a man is pushing a women around (was one of the set up hidden cameras experiment, luckily it was all actors and actresses). Very sad!!!

So you know how I feel about the issue!  ME and my opinions.  :)
